Power jack repair

The charging socket takes strain every time the cable is plugged in or knocked. When its solder joints crack or the socket breaks, the laptop charges on and off, or not at all.

Signs you need this repair

  • The charging light flickers when you move the cable
  • You have to hold the plug at an angle
  • The battery won't charge, although the charger works
  • The socket is loose, pushed in or burnt
  • A USB-C port charges with some cables but not others

What we do

We open the laptop, remove the damaged socket and fit a new one, repairing any lifted pads on the board. Where the socket is on a separate cable or small board, we replace that part instead.

We test with your own charger before handing the laptop back.

How long it takes. Usually done the same day for common models.

This repair is covered by our 90-day warranty on parts and labour. If the same fault comes back, bring the laptop in and we’ll put it right.
